This Buddhist retreat sits on 600 acres. Most people come for week-long or short-break guided retreats that include mind, body and meditation work. The lodging is clean and bare bones – as you would likely expect – with a group dorm, single rooms, tents and larger suites.
There is a mess hall, book-and-gift shop on-site. Day visitors will want to hike out to the Great Stupa. A lot of Buddhists live full-time at the retreat; check on long-term volunteer-to-stay programs if you are thinking of walking the monk's path.
