Easily the most luxurious and beautifully designed hotel in DRC, Mikeno Lodge is a pampering slice of bliss in the wilds of the Congo jungle. Each of the 12 vast bungalows is made of dark volcanic stone, rich mahogany and beautifully crafted thatched roofs. Inside they boast a cosy lounge, open fire and a bathroom with a stone-lined shower.
Meals are taken at the equally impressive main lodge, where an enormous terrace allows you to look directly into a forest canopy alive with colobus and blue monkeys. Food is excellent, service is attentive and there's even a gorilla orphanage on-site. In short, treat yourself.
