Villa Dihovo

Top choice in North Macedonia

A remarkable guesthouse, Villa Dihovo comprises three traditionally decorated rooms in a historic house that's home to former professional footballer Petar Cvetkovski and family. There's a big, private flowering lawn and cosy living room with an open fireplace for winter. The only fixed prices are for the homemade wine, beer and rakija (fruit brandy); all else, room price included, is your choice.

The rooms are a bit of a mountain-lodge-style affair, with a new extension above the restaurant area; bedrooms in the extension don't have doors for the en-suite bathrooms, so beware if planning to share.

Petar himself is a mine of information, deeply involved in the Slow Food movement, and can arrange everything from food tastings to hikes to Pelister's lakes, to mountain-bike rides to an evening of wine tasting in his cellar. Ask about cooking classes (€20 per person).

Book as far ahead as possible, because this place is popular. When it's full, Petar is more than happy to help arrange accommodation elsewhere in the village, such as at Villa Ilinden 1903, and to provide meals.
