Tampat Do Aman

Sabah

With its maze of jungle walkways, atmospheric Rungus longhouse rooms, fan-cooled chalets and bamboo huts overlooking hibiscus-rich gardens, this is a fine place to stay. Owner Howard and his Rungus wife pour the profits into local initiatives like school building and nature conservation, and numerous ecofriendly practises abound. There's an on-site museum, wildlife reserve and the food is terrific. Recommended.

Take a hike, go snorkelling or hire a motorbike. Howard also offers jungle trekking, mangrove tours, jungle survival courses and much more.
