Often called the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is now largely avoided by Parisians, other than those who work in the area, but its worldwide fame often makes it a bucket list sight for tourists, particularly for first-time visitors to Paris.
Although it does live up to its shopping street reputation and that is what most people are here to do, even if you can find the same stores back home, the avenue has some beautiful architecture and a richer history than the high-street shops would lead you to believe. If you’re in the area it’s worth strolling up the famed Champs-Élysées for yourself, although to get the most out of the experience avoid the chain stores and try and find somewhere more French.
The historic Guerlain store is particularly beautiful, you can pick up beauty products from cult French brand Biologique Recherche, or stop by department store Galeries Lafayette. Another tip is to skip the overpriced touristy restaurants, there are better places to eat in the area, and just stop somewhere for coffee.
