The news that United Airlines has decided to replace Biscoff cookies as an inflight snack may devastate you as much as the passengers who have taken to social media to voice their disappointment. Then again, its replacement might please and excite you, depending on where your cookie-loving allegiances lie.
The airline recently confirmed its plans to replace the brown sugar and cinnamon-flavored Biscoff cookies with Oreo Thins. The announcement has been met with a mixed response, similar to the one that greeted the 2018 announcement that it was replacing stroopfwafels, which have now been brought back. On one side, you have the passionate fans of the tasty Belgian biscuit, which was served to passengers for free along with pretzels and stroopwafels. And on the other, you have the staunch fans of Oreo Thins, the slimline version of Nabisco's cookie with two chocolate wafers and a sweet crème filling, which is the best-selling cookie brand in the US.
That's the way the cookie crumbles is the view that could be taken on this crunchy matter, but distraught passengers have been reaching out to the airline online to urge it to reconsider. Some have even threatened to take their custom to other airlines, which they could do as Delta and American Airlines currently offer Biscoff cookies as part of their complimentary snacks on flights longer than 250 miles. In response, United is keen to reassure people that it will miss the departing cookies too.
"We're going to miss the Biscoff cookies too, but we're excited to bring Oreos on board," it tweeted. United has not revealed exactly when the Biscoffs will disembark to make room for Oreo Thins, apart from stating that it plans to add them soon and looks forward to the response from its customers. “Our complimentary snack options continue to be a hit and we’re always looking for opportunities to introduce new selections,” it said.
It looks like we will all have to embrace the change for now, but in fairness, any tasty cookie served free onboard a flight is always going to taste delicious to us.
