Borax Museum

Museum in Death Valley National Park

On the grounds of the Ranch at Furnace Creek, this museum explains the history of borax in Death Valley, with alluring samples of local borate minerals and their uses. Out back there's a large collection of pioneer-era mining and transportation equipment.

It's in the oldest house in the valley, built in 1883 by FM 'Borax' Smith, founder of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, and originally stood in Twenty Mule Team Canyon where it served as office, miners' bunkhouse and ore-checking station.
