The Meek-Eaton Black Archives holds one of the country's largest collections of African American and African artifacts, as well as thousands of papers, photographs, paintings and documents pertaining to black American life. The 13 museum galleries feature exhibits on African American contributions to medicine and important collateral artifacts like manumission papers and the letters of Zora Neale Hurston.
The complex is located within Florida A&M University, known as FAMU (fam-you). FAMU was founded in 1887; today it's home to about 10,000 students and the only public historically black college or university (HBCU) in the state.
