Since 1843, writers have alleged that treasure is buried on Norman Island, supposedly the prototype for Robert Louis Stevenson’s book Treasure Island. It fits the bill: Norman is the BVI’s largest uninhabited landmass.
Today adventurers come for two raucous beach bars. The William Thornton, aka Willy T, is a schooner converted into a bar-restaurant and moored in the bight. Pirate's Bight is an open-air pavilion on the beach. Both have loud music and a party-hearty crowd.
If you don't have your own boat, call Pirate's Bight and ask about the ferry (round-trip US$20).
