A vintage double decker bus from 1964 has been converted into a tranquil getaway nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside, allowing guests to wake up to 40 acres of unspoiled landscape.
Situated at the Ceridwen Centre, an eco-friendly retreat in Carmarthenshire, the converted Leyland Titan was taken from the local area, and had previously been kept as a piece of history. Now the vehicle is a modern glamping escape for travellers looking to embrace country living.
Starting from £139 (€162) per night for a two-night minimum, the bus can sleep six people, with two double bedrooms and a sofa bed downstairs. It also includes a kitchen with cooking area (complete with gas stove, oven, fridge and cooking utensils) and a seating area on the ground floor. The space is well insulated with gas central heating to ensure it is cosy no matter the season. It also boasts built-in wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. The bedrooms have their own entrances, and one can be accessed from the loft-style ladder from the main room, and the other by the original bus stairs.
The outside area includes a deck that overlooks farmland, while a separate building onsite called “The Bus Stop” houses two showers. Pre-prepared meals can be ordered to heat in the oven, while on occasion, special food nights are hosted at the on-site bar which also sells organic wines, ales and spirits. Pizza and open mic nights are also hosted on the premises, while the shop sells local produce and crafts. Guests can take part in a number of activities, including mountain-biking, rock-climbing and canoeing in the Teifi Gorge.
“We've definitely seen an increase in people looking for unique places to stay in the UK. They're looking for something new, not just your usual holiday accommodation. The bus provides exactly that, a place that’s both unique in its surroundings with plenty of outdoor activities, but also somewhere that guests will look forward to coming home to,” Sarah Jarvis, owner of Independent Cottages told Lonely Planet.
