Lakes always provide a pretty backdrop for photographs, but have you ever wondered which lakes are the most Instagram-worthy to visit?
You might be inspired by a study conducted by Showerstoyou.co.uk, who conducted an analysis of the world’s most Instagrammed lakes. On the day of its study, it found that the Lake District in England came first with 2,951,548 hashtags. While the area is composed of many lakes, the researchers decided to take it as a whole because it is known for its glacial ribbon bodies of water. It's the UK's most popular national park, and 15 million people pitch up to explore it annually.
Lake Tahoe came in second place with 2,459,104 hashtags. Situated between California and Nevada, it is the second-deepest lake in the US and, at 6245ft high, it is also one of the highest-elevation lakes in the country. Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes, and it came third with 2,208,442 hashtags. The survey found that the US is a popular destination for lake-lovers, containing 35% of the world’s most Instagrammed lakes.
Italy’s Lake Como in Italy came fourth with 1,412,597 hashtags. The fifth-deepest lake in Europe, its upscale resort area is known for its dramatic scenery, set against the foothills of the Alps.
The Dead Sea is located in Israel and the Palestinian Territories and it closes out the top five with 1,137,909 hashtags. The lowest place on earth at 431m below sea level, it brings together breathtaking natural beauty, compelling ancient history and modern mineral spas.
The rest of the top ten lakes included another of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, with 863,446 hashtags, Lake Superior in Canada with 832,139, West Lake in China with 814,434, Loch Ness in Scotland with 528,075, and Crater Lake in Oregon with 429,825 hashtags.
