Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art

Charles Leslie and the late Fritz Lohman started showcasing their gay-themed art collection from a SoHo loft in 1969 – an assemblage that rapidly expanded as they rescued works by dying artists during the 1980s AIDs pandemic. Today, they’re best known for founding the world’s first museum dedicated to LGBTIQ+ themes, with over 25,000 pieces that span three centuries and include notable names like Keith Haring and Robert Mapplethorpe. Exhibitions take place year-round, with themed shows and solo-art retrospectives.
