This Hermann Tilke–designed track made its F1 debut as the host of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009. Outside December’s Grand Prix, the 5.5km Yas Marina Circuit is active almost daily. Guided tours (yasmarinacircuit.com; from Dhs1200) run through race control, pit lanes and podium areas, but the more memorable option is to drive it yourself. Get behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and feel the power of its 510 BHP Twin Turbo or sign up for a 10-minute drive in the single-seat Formula Yas 3000 with its quick F1-style paddle shift gear changes and a 0 to 100km/h acceleration in a mere 2.8 seconds. Expect a safety briefing and helmet fitting before you’re released onto the track for timed laps. Prices vary widely depending on vehicle, but most driving packages last under 20 minutes once on circuit. Book ahead, especially in winter.
Fitness buffs can also access the track three nights a week for free when it opens to runners, walkers and cyclists.
