Opened in 2005, Emirates Palace remains one of Abu Dhabi's most recognizable buildings, with 114 domes, 1002 crystal chandeliers, expansive manicured gardens, grand arches, gold-leaf interiors and 200 fountains. While it functions as a luxury hotel, nonguests can visit the property in several ways.
Guided tours (mandarinoriental.com; Dhs150) provide access to key public spaces and insight into the history and architectural highlights of the palace, including the central dome (72.6m high) adorned with gold, mother of pearl and crystals, and selected areas like the Palace Suite. You fittingly end the tour with a gold-flecked palace cappuccino. Alternatively, book a restaurant reservation, afternoon tea (Dhs245) or a day pass (adult/child from Dhs400/200) to enjoy the hotel's private 1.3km white-sand beach and two outdoor pools.
