Getting Around

Fast black and yellow watertaxis are the Ferraris of the Nieuwe Maas. Tickets are charged by zone according to distance travelled, and cost between €4.50 and €10 per passenger; children under 13 travel half price. See the website for dock locations and zone information.

Ticket Passes

  • Tourist Day Pass (€13.50) Gives unlimited travel on trams, buses, the metro and Waterbus services; note that it works by day, and not for 24 hours. Available at the tourist offices and at RET service shops and centres.

  • One-Day RET Pass (€8) Allows travel on buses, trams and the metro but not on Waterbus services. Available at RET service shops and centres.

  • Rechargeable Two-Hour Ticket (€3.50) Can be purchased from a bus driver or tram conductor and recharged at RET sales desks and reloading machines in metro stations.

If in the city for a few days, you'll save a lot of money by purchasing and charging an OV Chipkaart (www.ret.nl/en/home/travel-products/public-transport-chip-card.html). Ticket inspections are common.
