Seenigama Vihara

About 2km north of Hikkaduwa, the Seenigama Vihara is perched on its own island, with a partner shrine on the mainland. It’s one of only two temples in the country where victims of theft can seek retribution. Devotees purchase specially prepared lamp oil made with chili and pepper, which they light in their homes while reciting a mantra. A short time later the thief will be identified when they’re struck down with misfortune.
