At the base of Vitoria's medieval Casco Viejo is the delightful Plaza de la Virgén Blanca, which is lorded over by the 14th-century Iglesia de San Miguel whose statue of the Virgén Blanca lends her name to the Plaza below and is the city's patron saint.
