Xiahai Buddhist Monastery

The name of this large Buddhist temple means 'Going Out to Sea Temple'. It was built during the Qing dynasty, during the rule of the Qianlong emperor (r 1735–96). It got its moniker because fishermen would worship here and pray to the sea god for protection. It's a far less touristy experience than the other temples in the city, and well worth a look.
