One of the easiest places to stay overnight in Tana Toraja is, conveniently, one of the more beautiful. Batutumonga at Sesean Suloara’ occupies a broad slope on the side of Gunung Sesean overlooking, well, just about everything. From here you will have panoramic views of Rantepao and the Sa’dan Valley, and stunning sunrises.
It's located about 20km north of Rantepao and if you're doing it right, getting here is half the fun. A winding trek through traditional villages and up pathways snaking between rice terraces is the best way to earn your reward, but for those pressed for time, you can also day-trip here for some hiking and a local lunch.
