Alte Synagoge

Heidelberg Region

Worms’ famous Old Synagogue, founded in 1034, was destroyed in the 1938 pogroms, but in 1961 it was reconstructed primarily using stones from the original. Men are asked to cover their heads inside.

In the garden, stone steps lead down to an extraordinary, Romanesque-style Mikwe (ritual bath) built in the 1100s; it's closed for renovations until 2019.
