Brussels is the country's most globally connected airport and the hub for Belgium's biggest carrier Brussels Airlines (www.brusselsairlines.com). Charleroi airport, sometimes misleadingly described as Brussels-South, attracts budget airlines. Antwerp's small airport offers business flights to the UK, Germany and beyond, while Liège and Ostend airports focus mainly on cargo plus summer charter flights.
For long-haul flights it can be worth comparing costs with flying into neighbouring countries via Frankfurt, Amsterdam or Paris, for example, then continuing to Belgium by train.
Antwerp Airport (www.antwerpairport.aero) VLM serves nine destinations, mostly British and German, FlyBe offers four British Isles destinations and TUI has holiday charters.
Brussels Airport (www.brusselsairport.be) Belgium’s main international airport is well connected to Europe and Africa and has some direct flights to North America and Asia on numerous different airlines.
Charleroi ‘Brussels-South’ (www.brussels-charleroi-airport.com) RyanAir and WizzAir use Belgium’s main low-cost hub, which is 55km south of Brussels near Charleroi. The airport also has an Air Belgium flight to Hong Kong and CIS links via Minsk on Belavia.
