Eccentric artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s design ethos was to create spaces where human beings and nature coexisted harmoniously. With its motley paintwork, curvy lines and forest-sprouting balconies and rooftop, the Hundertwasserhaus is deliberately visually deviant from its conventionally classical neighbors, achieving its goal of getting people to stop and think about city planning and ecological living.
The famed viewing point is on Kegelgasse. You can’t enter the private apartment building, though the elevated terrace cafe allows you to stay longer and you can cross the road to visit the Hundertwasser Village, also the handiwork of Hundertwasser.
