Behind a yard of twisting iron sculpture, the city’s art center (mendocinoartcenter.org) takes up a whole tree-filled block. Visitors are welcome to drop in and wander its gallery, filled with works from local artists, for free from Thursday through Sunday.
Don't miss the gift shop, where ceramics, jewelry and T-shirts are for sale. If you'd like to get in on the crafting action, check out the center’s calendar for workshops that take place on a single day or over a weekend.
It also hosts exhibitions, nationally renowned art classes and the 81-seat Helen Schoeni Theatre, which is home to the Mendocino Theatre Company (mendocinotheatre.org). You can also pick up the Mendocino Arts magazine here, a biannual publication listing all the happenings and festivals in town.
