Wells' Built Museum

This small museum is dedicated to Orlando's African American history and culture. It's housed in the former Wells' Hotel, built in 1921 by Dr William Monroe Wells to host African American performers forbidden from staying in the city's strictly segregated accommodations. Through its doors passed many an influential performer, including Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.
