Welcome to Sinop
Wrapped around a rocky promontory, delightful Sinop is a town of superlatives. It is the most northerly point in Anatolia and the only southern-facing spot on the coast. According to an old-salty saying, 'the Black Sea has three harbours – July, August and Sinop'. The naturally sheltered harbour here is safe even in the roughest winter weather, when it can be dangerous for ships to enter other ports.
Sinop is today a holiday town with a cosmopolitan air. Its heritage as a trading port for nigh on three millennia is reflected in model ships on sale in shops all over town.
