Welcome to Malatya
Malatya's architecture wins no prizes and sights are sparse, but the city soon grows on you. Its rewards include verdant parks, broad, tree-lined boulevards, chaotic bazaars and the smug feeling that you're the only tourist for miles around. For cultural sustenance, there are the nearby historic sites of Battalgazi and Aslantepe, and operators also offer tours to Nemrut Dağı National Park.
Malatya is also Turkey's kayısi (apricot) capital, and after the late-June harvest, thousands of tonnes of the luscious fruit are shipped internationally.
