Basílica de Santa María la Mayor

This imposing and beautiful Gothic basilica has two elaborately sculpted doorways on its southern facade, one preserving a significant amount of color. A richly sculpted and colored staircase leads to the unusual overhead choir with its characterful Gothic frieze of the Last Judgement. The organ and gilt altarpiece are later baroque additions, with cherubs clambering and peeking all over them. There's a small three-level museum that houses the church's treasures and some religious art.
