Housed in the imposing Zichy Palace (Zichy kastély) built in 1752, this two-floor gallery exhibits 150 of its 410 works by Victor Vasarely (or Vásárhelyi Győző as he was known before he emigrated to Paris in 1930 at age 24), the late "father of op art," who died in 1997. Op art is short for "optical art," a style of abstract visual art that uses optical illusion (to great success in this case).
Watch Vasarely's excellent works like Tlinko-F (1956–62), Ibadan-Pos (1977) and Keek (1980) as they "swell" and "move" around the canvas. Mind-blowing stuff.
