Named after the upper Savage River, this wilderness region in the northwest of Tasmania is home to the largest contiguous area of cool temperate rainforest surviving in Australia. There is rich primitive flora here, along with undisturbed river catchments, and diverse rainforest fauna, including many endangered species. It is inaccessible by 2WD car and has no tourism infrastructure.
