One of Pier Head's 'Three Graces', the trio of Edwardian buildings, the Royal Liver Building (pronounced lie-ver) was opened in 1911 as the head office of the Royal Liver Friendly Society. It's crowned by a 5.5m copper Liver Bird, Liverpool's symbol.
