These pleasant gardens both fill and enfold a fragmentary ring of ivy-draped ruins. With a second take, you might realize that these were once part of a huge Roman amphitheater, though it's harder to imagine gladiators fighting to the death beneath the fountain pool where kids now splash with carefree delight.
