The excellent Wairoa Museum has an Italianate facade from its former life as a bank. Inside you'll find passionately curated, creative displays on local town, river, political and Māori history – the undisputed highlight of which is the amazing Māori flag from the 1865 Land Wars, recently repatriated from Scotland. A great little regional museum.
