Scale and stillness impress at the Global Vipassana Pagoda (globalpagoda.org; free) in Gorai. Built in 2009 on a peninsula between Gorai Creek and the Arabian Sea, this vast stone dome shelters an 8000-seat meditation hall. Inspired by Myanmar’s Shwedagon Pagoda, it honors the Buddha and the vipassana tradition. Try Anapana meditation or a 10-day vipassana course (both free). Dress modestly and carry ID. Reach by ferry or road from Borivali or Gorai. It's open from 10am to 6.30pm.

There’s an art gallery dedicated to the life of the Buddha and his teaching.
