Bank of England Museum

Museum in The City

The centrepiece of this museum, which explores the evolution of money and the history of the venerable Bank of England (founded in 1694 by a Scotsman), is a reconstruction of architect John Soane’s original Bank Stock Office. A series of rooms leading off the office are packed with exhibits including displays of coins and banknotes, and a hefty 13kg solid gold bar you can lift up.
