Founded by Charles Darwin's mentor, Professor John Henslow, the beautiful Botanic Garden is a gorgeous green expanse, full of hidden corners, tiny paths and secret spaces. There are more than 8000 plant species here, from mature trees in the arboretum to an army of carnivorous pitcher plants in Victorian-era greenhouses. Under normal circumstances, hour-long guided tours (free) run from May through to September; check to see if they've resumed.
The gardens are 1200m south of the city center, accessible from either Trumpington Rd or Hills Rd.
