Just west of Výstaviště, Stromovka is central Prague’s largest park. It was established in the 13th century as a royal hunting preserve, and it’s still sometimes called the Královská obora (Royal Hunting Ground). Emperor Rudolf II had rare trees planted here and built several fishponds. It’s now the preferred haunt of strollers, joggers, cyclists and in-line skaters.
Stromovka was badly damaged by flooding that struck the city in 2002, and in the two decades since, enchanting new ponds, bridges and flowerbeds have been added. Enter the park from the Výstaviště exhibition grounds or from Letenské náměstí (follow Čechova třída north to a ridge overlooking the park and then walk down).
