Bund Sightseeing Tunnel

Connecting the Bund and Pudong via an 647m subterranean underpass, the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (外滩观光隧道, Wàitān Guānguāng Suìdào, 300 East Zhongshan No 1 Rd, ⼭东⼀路300号) is one of the most brilliantly naff, comically kitsch and utterly bizarre experiences to be had in Shanghai. Climb aboard a pedestrian-only electric car and start the slow, mystical, five-minute journey under the Huangpu River, through a tunnel illuminated with kaleidoscopic colored lights as a creepy and suspenseful soundtrack plays. "Magnum," says a narrator as the car travels past lava-like red-light projections. "Paradise and hell" eerily laughs the voiceover as the car moves through a section of rainbow LEDs. Despite your arriving in a slightly altered state, it’s a surprisingly convenient if pricey way to cross the river to Lujiazui in Pudong. Departures leave around every 15 minutes. Not suitable for small children who scare easily.
