Located next to the South Esk River, this 1838 mansion was built for wealthy wool grower and merchant James Cox. A Georgian gem, it looks like it’s stepped straight out of Gone with the Wind. Long the grandest house in the colony, it is now owned by the National Trust. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the house, which is furnished with antiques, and also visit its outbuildings – one of these houses the Australian Fly Fishing Museum.
After visiting the house, outbuildings and garden, consider indulging in a Devonshire tea ($7) in the on-site cafe.
