Australia’s largest regional museum, the Queen Victoria Museum (QVMAG; qvmag.tas.gov.au; free) is a real treasury of Tasmanian time. There are the requisite dinosaurs and megafauna, but pride of place goes to an exhibition on the cherished thylacine. Don't miss the original cell doors from Port Arthur and the gallery on the Sydney Cove, Australia's oldest-known shipwreck, which ran aground on Preservation Island in Bass Strait in 1797.
