A fine fusion of camping and glamour - glamping has become a hip and a niche form of holiday in India. From luxury Swiss tents to treehouses, we have jotted down some of India’s best places to go glamping for travellers seeking rejuvenation and relaxation with a hint of adventurous, safe, and off-beat experiences.
Khem Villas, Luxury Jungle Camp , Ranthambore, Rajasthan
This splendid option has been created by the Singh Rathore family – its patriarch Fateh Singh Rathore is lauded as the driving force behind tiger conservation at Ranthambhore. This impressive eco-lodge is set in 22 acres of organic farmland and reafforested land. The accommodation ranges from rooms in the lovely colonial-style bungalow to luxury tents to stone cottages.
Amarya Shamiyana , Goa
The romance of staying in luxurious canvas-and-gauze tents makes Amarya Shamiyana (Ashvem Beach) special. The staff is attentive but non-obtrusive. There are massage tents, an espresso bar, and a pavilion selling designer stuff.
Banjaar Tola , Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
The super-luxury camp set up by Taj Safaris is known to transport you to an ethereal atmosphere. Expect otherworldly amenities and facilities, despite having a camp-like feel to the accommodation. The tented suites are pitched next to the Banjar River; bird songs and the sound of the river are as relaxing as a lullaby.
The Ajit Bhawan , Jodhpur, Rajasthan
This is your high-end luxury hotel – plush and proper from the word go. This property is landscaped with lawns, bridges, pebbled walkways, and pleasant sit-out areas. This landscape is broken by clusters of rooms styled as huts, tents, and stone facade rooms, all of which boast the best in modern-day amenities.
Reni Pani, Satpura , Madhya Pradesh
When contemporary style meets local aesthetics, the stay is nothing less than gorgeous. The luxury property draws inspiration from local life but infuses luxury seamlessly into it. There are three kinds of units; nullah (brook), hill and forest. Of this, the nullah rooms are situated along the small brooks; the constant sound of water is soothing.
Nature Zone , Munnar, Kerala
Rumble along a bumpy forest road along tea plantations to reach Nature Zone, a camping and tree-house facility on top of a hill. Nature Zone arranges pick-up from the KSRTC bus stand. It has 10 well-furnished African style tents and plush tree houses. The property sits on a ridge with breathtaking views of the Pothamedu Valley below. Nature Zone also has an in-house restaurant and offers guided activities like rappelling, birding, trekking, and nature walks.
The Machan , Khandala-Lonavala, Maharashtra
This resort is off the map, in the truest sense. Located at Jambulne (near Lonavala) and surrounded by thick forests, it offers a great wilderness experience. Accommodation is by the way of exclusive tree-top machans, in different ranges of luxury. There is a machan-style reception area, and a small waterbody for guests to cool off. In-house naturalists accompany you on nature walks.
The Fern Creek , Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu
The Fern Creek is a residential property converted into a hotel. While the original house has been transformed into the reception area and the dining room, seven Swiss luxury tents have been put up in the garden. Flowers, shrubs, and trees of different sizes abound, giving enough privacy to each tent. All the tents have attached bathrooms. There’s also a recreation room where guests can play chess, carom and other board games.
