St Mary's Old Parish Church

Dating from at least 1253, St Mary's was allowed to fall into ruin after a bigger church was built in 1856; it's now a public garden, thanks to the local cooperative union. It's also the peaceful, poignant site of both founding socialist Robert Owen's grave and a memorial to Thomas Powell, a disciple of Owen who led Welsh Chartist demands for universal male suffrage in the 1830s and '40s.
