As Native American legend tells it, the geological phenomenon at Sol Duc is the legacy of a battle between two lightning fish. When neither fish won, each crawled beneath the earth and shed bitter tears, forming the heated mineral springs. These springs have been diverted into three large tiled pools for health and recreation at Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort.
There's also a standard swimming pool to cool off in, as well as a restaurant, a snack bar, a gift shop and overnight accommodations. Massage is available from $55 for 30 minutes. Don't expect a wilderness hot-springs experience here, but it's still lovely.
