Buena Vista Park

Park in The Haight & Hayes Valley

True to its name, this park, founded in 1867, offers splendid vistas over the city to Golden Gate Bridge. Consider them your reward for hiking up the steep hill, ringed by stately, century-old California oaks. Take Buena Vista Ave West downhill to spot Victorian mansions that survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. Note that after-hours boozing or cruising here is risky, given petty criminal activity.
