Travelers keen to learn more about the practice of Islam in the UAE can head to Jumeirah Mosque (jumeirahmosque.ae; entry Dhs45). Dating back to 1979, the sandstone-and-marble structure is one of just a handful of mosques open to non-Muslim visitors. Guided tours (free) run at 10am and 2pm every day except Friday and registration opens 30 minutes before each session. An Emirati guide leads guests around the venue and explains about religions practices and cultural traditions. Tours end with traditional refreshments. Modest dress is required and women should bring a scarf to cover their hair. The mosque also has a small museum showcasing pieces documenting life in the city in the 1970s and '80s.
