Welcome to Zug
On the face of it, Zug appears like many other Swiss towns: lapped by a lake and ringed by mountains. However, this is the richest canton in one of the world’s richest countries. Figures from 2016 put Zug at the top of the list of well-off cantons, with the purchasing power of residents more than one-and-a-half times the Swiss average. It has a reputation as being tax- and business-friendly, and you're likely to feel things are a tad different just getting off the train, looking around the shops and noticing the cars driving by – this town is affluent.
Zug is also known for its legendary local Kirschtorte (cherry cake) and the cobblestoned medieval streets of the Old Town.
