Welcome to La Chaux-de-Fonds
La Chaux is also the birthplace of the great modern architect Le Corbusier, a key player in Germany's – and then the world's – Bauhaus movement, and a number of his first, pre-Bauhaus buildings remain here today. The city also has a healthy collection of attractive art nouveau architecture (not of Le Corbusier's design).
La Chaux is a pretty town of steep, sloping streets, which, without a vehicle or thighs of steel, don't make for the most user-friendly explorations. Indeed, if you're not a fan of architecture or the niche, multi-billion-dollar luxury-timepiece industry, there's no compelling reason to linger.
