Museum of Frederic Mares in Barcelona. Sculpture collection - gothic, middle ages

The wealthy Catalan sculptor, traveller and collector Frederic Marès i Deulovol (1893–1991) amassed an astonishing collection of historical curios, particularly medieval Spanish sculpture. Today, his displays of religious art and antiques (which he donated to the city) await inside this vast medieval complex, once part of the royal palace of the counts of Barcelona, then later the seat of the Spanish Inquisition in Barcelona.

Highlights include polychrome wooden sculptures of the Crucifixion and the Virgin and a reconstructed 13th-century Aragonese Romanesque doorway.
