Fortín Conde de Mirasol

Vieques

This small fort – the last Spanish fort constructed in the Americas, in 1845 – sits on a hill above Isabel Segunda with sweeping views over the mainland and nearby islands. Although never completed, the fort has ramparts and a fully restored central building that houses a history and art museum; it's also home to Radio Vieques and the Vieques Historic Archives. Not surprisingly, its gift shop has an extensive selection of books on the island's history.
