St Raphael's Catholic Church

Kaua‘i’s first Catholic church was constructed in 1854 using lava rock and coral mortar to build walls 3ft thick. It was plastered over when enlarged in 1936, giving it a more familiar whitewashed look, but the original style remains visible in the rectory alongside.

Service hours vary, but the cemetery, where some of Hawaii’s earliest Portuguese immigrants lie buried, is open during daylight.
