Resembling a crenellated keep, Porta Settimiana marks the start of Via della Lungara, the 16th-century road built in 1498 to connect Trastevere with Borgo over a small passageway in the Aurelian Wall. A few steps before it is the finestra della Fornarina, the window where Raphael first saw his love and muse. The international students you'll hear by Porta Settimiana attend John Cabot University, an American liberal-arts university in the historic building next to the gateway.
